BS Honey Bees | Silicone Stoppers
BS Honey Bees is a wonderfully unique business that specialises in the breeding and selling of Buckfast Honey Bees in National 5 / 6 Frame Nucs (short for Nucleus, a small family of bees). Naturally, as a bi-product of their main business they sell the honey too, as they produce 7-10 tonnes of honey per year.
They are located in the stunning countryside of the Cotswolds just outside Gloucester. They are renowned for the best quality bees available in the UK market. Dan and Tristan have been running the company for around 12 years (15 / 16 years in the industry). Good friends, they began the business in the garage of Dans Mums house after working as Beekeepers in Australia. Now, they own their own plot of land, (13.22 acres to be exact) and have a 6 thousand square foot purpose built building there, this is now their Head Office, what spectacular growth and an achievement to be proud of!
In total BS Honey Bees has around 450 bee hives! This is over 25,000,000 bees. As they grow, they are split to make new colonies that are sold onto budding Hobbyist or Commercial Beekeepers. In the Bee Farming Industry, the spring / summer is their busiest season where weekly inspections are paramount to running an efficient operation, this is required for swarm management and disease management. Bee Keeping is a commitment and requires lots of maintaining to stop over population, it also requires skill and knowledge to correctly manage colonies (fully suited up of course!). At BS Honey Bees, you can buy the 2 in 1 Poly Nuc Boxes on their own or with the bees depending on what you need.
Sinclair & Rush have assisted BS Honey Bees with the finish of their specialised, dense Polystyrene Bee Hives. Dan and Tristan had looked at making these boxes for many years, using their expertise in bee keeping in the UK & Australia, as the only ones available in the market had flaws. They designed and manufactured these best seller Bee Hives and this is where we came in, specifically Nathan in our Sales team. It took many back and forth conversations and samples to experiment with what would work. In the end, we supplied BS Honey Bees with our Silicone Stoppers to provide a liquid tight seal on their Polystyrene Bee Hive feeders. A niche idea in the market, our Plugs enables the hive to be multifunctioning. They can feed liquid sugar syrup in the top feeding cavity, before the bees become independent, but the feeder can also be filled with fondant icing blocks (during winter) in which the silicone plug is removed to allow direct access to the bees. There is no other hive that operates this way. It saves money and space as the same hive component can be used for both applications, so it is a bestselling product.
