Fixxon recognised an opening in the market for a simple way of attaching re-usable laundry tags, used in Care Homes and Residential Institutions to identify clothing. It is the unique way in which the tags are attached that stands this product from the crowd and in this system lays the challenges for something Injection Moulded in high-volumes.
Grant initially approached Sinclair & Rush with a 3D Concept and Drawing looking to take the idea forwards. The main challenges associated with the project relate to the overall smoothness required meaning that the tool had to be designed so that no fill-point or knock-out-pin marks affected the outer surface. Specific materials have also been tested to withstand the Laundry process including high temperature dryers.

For the correct fit, size is critical and tolerances are therefore extremely tight. As the product has developed, so therefore, has the tooling and manufacturing methods required. For the latest version of the 'Button' new material additives have been sourced to create contrast when laser-etched with residents names - saving the need for separate labels and further reducing the size of the Tag.
Sinclair & Rush Design Engineers have understood the specific application of this item and have undergone extensive R&D to support Fixxon. The parts now run in the UK so are readily available and we can react to spikes in demand. Through the Identitags Brand, the buttons are now being used in schools throughout the country.
