How important is social media marketing in business?

Social Media Marketing – Is it an important task to carry out within an organisation?

Hello all, It’s Ellie here again from Sinclair & Rush and this time we are talking all about Social Media Marketing within Business….

Let’s face it, having an online presence seems to be a given within the business world now. When we want to learn a little more about an organisation, we are straight on Google researching them or on one of the many social media channels. The online world has taken off in such a way, that sometimes it can be difficult to keep up with it all. There are constantly new channels being invented that if we don’t keep well informed, it’s easy to fall behind! The poll question we asked you all last week was, Is Social Media Marketing, an important task to carry out, within a Company?

Many companies, ourselves included, think social media marketing is something that we should be doing, ensuring we are posting interesting and relevant content often, and have an active online presence. But on the other hand, sometimes we can wonder if it’s really working. Do we have enough content that’s interesting or is it bringing in enough revenue and leads? Social Media engagement is a long game and it takes time to pay off, so it’s understandable that we all have these thoughts.

It can also be difficult to transition to the new way of the world because we are so used to the old fashion ways of communicating with our clients. You know, the good old face to face interactions, telephone and email that has grown businesses for many years. But technology advances so quickly and social media is so current, that this has shown us, and many other businesses, that we need to be getting involved online, one way or another!

The results from our poll are as follows:

The multiple-choice answers we put were as follows:

  1. 100% Yes very important
  2. Not sure if it is or not!
  3. Depends on the Industry
  4. Definitely not important

Out of the above choices, 85% of you picked option 1. And 25% of you picked option 3. Interestingly, no one put option 2 or 4. So, this has shown us that you too are thinking social media marketing is something that does need to be incorporated into a business and its daily tasks!

We believe Social Media Marketing does need to be carried out within businesses as it builds the online presence that nowadays, companies need to have, or they are likely to fall behind and not be as successful. It’s an excellent way of getting your information out to hundreds of businesses all in one go, so in theory it can be a real time saver, meaning you spend your energies in other parts of your organisation. It can also be an excellent way to recruit new staff and help grow your business this way. When job seekers look for new opportunities, they are sure to do it using the social media channels, so if you are on social media telling the world you have a new role, you are likely to get some excellent candidates through your door! It’s likely to be the Generation Zs & Alphas who will be looking to work, and these are the age groups that have grown up with social media. So if you aren’t on there, they won’t find you and your fabulous company!

Similarly, the sooner you start the social engagement and posting regularly, the better! It’s a process and it does takes time to grow and be seen, but once it has and you are, it will be worth the investment. As you are likely to find and be found by potential customers and these leads will sure turn into sales!

To touch on the 25% who picked option 3, “depends on the industry”. This does make sense as some companies may not find their possible prospects on social media, as much as they would exhibiting on a business stand or cold calling, for example. However, as we mentioned previously, simply having a presence online no matter the industry, is worth doing currently as it ensures you are being SEEN and keeping current with the modern business world!

Some companies choose to outsource their social media marketing and others employ someone specifically for the job. It all depends on what you feel you need & what resources you have within your organisation!

We hope this blog has been interesting and informative. Feel free to comment and get involved with discussions as it is great to hear your views on these interesting topics, as always!

Bye for now!
