We have a new feature on our website category pages, Recycling Code grades are now on each category page, to give you more information that assists in making more eco friendly choices. We feel it is important to give our customers as much information as possible so you can make educated decisions on your purchasing based on how sustainable they are, as it is so important now.
These new codes can be found under the images to the left of the price structure table on every category page.
Recycling Codes are used to identify the materials that the component is made of, it assists with an easier recycling process. The codes are within a triangle of following arrows with their recycling code grade in the middle which and the chemical compound abbreviation underneath. These are not automatic indicators that the product is easy to recycle but more what the material actually is.
The following article explains the resin identifications codes to make it easier for you to understand the codes and their materials as it can get confusing for the end user! This article also explains that us, the Manufacturers are encouraged to make packaging from recycled materials so that our packaging is easier to recycle under legislation like "The Extended Producer Responsibility" EPR. We all play a part in sustainability by keeping educated on such things.
What can and can't be recycled - BBC Future
An interesting quote from Tim Duret, Director of Sustainable Technology at Veolia in the UK is as follows:
"Plastic is everywhere for a reason, it's a victim of its own success," says Duret. "It's very light, it's quite cheap, it's versatile. And actually plastic is a very low carbon-intense packaging, both to manufacture and to recycle if you compare it with glass or aluminium. But it's probably been overused, and the end of life management of plastic has not been considered sufficiently enough. We have to be careful not to shift away from plastics to something which is worse for the environment."
From this quotation, we can see that Plastic, used in the right way, has its place in society but we shouldn't be ignorant to it or the changes we need to make surrounding it.
