“Under the Spotlight”, Mark
Senior Purchasing Co-Ordinator
The purpose of this is for our people to get to know
you a little bit better, in a fun and relaxing way.
So let’s get right into it…
First of all, Congratulations on your 10 year Work Anniversary. Thank you for your commitment and hard work over the past 10 years.
You joined Component Force on 28 May 2012. Tell us about those early days, what were you recruited to do, who did you report to at the time, and how has your career progressed with the company?
"I started at Component Force kind of doing the gardening at 19 Laker Road. At the time I was out of work and I was doing some gardening bits for Paul G (former MD) on a personal level and he brought me in to help tidy the place.
There were some big secondary jobs that needed doing so I was asked to help out there as well. It was clear that the Despatch team at the time was very busy and slightly short-staffed, so I moved into that department. I really enjoyed the people and the type of work so I remained in Despatch for around 5 years.
While I was in Despatch I became more involved in the setting up of parts and quite enjoyed the “admin” side of the business. I heard that Louise was moving away from Purchasing into Accounts, and I felt ready for a new challenge, so I put my name forward to take up the position in Purchasing which is where I currently am."
We are very proud to have a number of long-serving employees at Sinclair & Rush, of which you are one. What do you think the reason could be for this?
"I guess it’s the people that we work with each day – there is a very strong family feel to the business and sometimes it feels like you’re coming to work with your friends."
What career advice would you give to your younger self?
“Follow what you enjoy... I would tell myself to do what I enjoy, rather than do things just for the sake of it or for the money."
Now onto the more fun stuff…
What do you do to relax when you’re not at work?
"Walk and play with my dog Geoffrey. I enjoy playing guitar and synthesiser and of course I love cooking. I’m finding lately that the things I enjoy making and eating involve the fermentation process. I make kombucha regularly “fermented tea”. "
